What are my options?
There are many contact lens options available. Your eye care provider will take your visual needs and your prescription into consideration when helping you select the right lenses for your eyes.
Here are some of the most common contact lens types:
- Rigid Gas Permeable – RGP lenses are porous enough to allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. These hard contact lenses keep their shape on the eye, and as such, they correct irregular astigmatism and are sometimes recommended to curb the progression of nearsightedness in younger wearers.
- Soft Lenses – Soft contact lenses are very popular because they are more comfortable for the wearer. Soft contact lenses cover the entire cornea, and are less likely to become dislocated or dislodged during normal wear. Soft lenses are appropriate to correct near and farsightedness, astigmatism, and even presbyopia.
- Daily Disposable Soft Lenses – Our most popular option, dailies are intended to be replaced every single day. This modality is the most healthy and comfortable option, and greatly reduces issues with allergies, irritation and infections. Daily disposable lenses are also indicated for children, as they are the safest lenses available.
- Colored contact lenses – These are worn to enhance the visible color of the iris. They are available in plano or prescription, and need to be treated with the same care you would give to regular lenses.
