What are my options for lenses?
There are many eyeglass lens options available. Your optometrist and optician will take your lifestyle and vision correction needs into consideration when helping you select the right lenses for your eyes.
Here are some of the most common eyeglass lens types:
- Eyezen® – Enhanced single vision lens designed to reduce eye strain and provide comfort during extended use of digital devices. They offer a small degree of accommodative relief, which helps with focusing at near distances, and include a blue-violet light filter.
- Multifocal – Traditional bifocal and trifocal lenses are prescription glasses with two or three distinct optical powers in one lens, with visible lines separating the prescription areas.
- PAL – Also known as PALs (Progressive Addition Lenses), PALs offer a seamless and gradual change in power across the lens, unlike traditional bifocals or trifocals with visible lines. They provide clear vision at all distances, better aesthetics, and better visual outcomes. Another PAL option is Computer lenses. Computer lenses are specialized progressive lenses designed for intermediate and near vision, making them ideal for computer work and other tasks requiring close-up focus.
- Transitions® Lenses: Also known as photochromic lenses, these lenses automatically adjust to light conditions, darkening outdoors and becoming clear indoors. They offer the convenience of both clear eyewear and sunglasses in one pair and help reduce glare, blue light, and eye strain. Transitions® GEN S™ and Transitions® XTRActive™ are available in grey or brown, as well as eight exclusive colors.
- Polarized lenses – If you wear prescription eyewear, you might want to consider a pair of polarized lenses. Polarized lenses reduce reflected light while fishing, skiing and driving, making the outdoors more comfortable. They are available in grey, brown, with a mirror-coating, as a magnetic clip-on, as a fit-over, or as a fashionable pair of sunglasses.
- Polycarbonate and Trivex lenses – Safer than traditional glass or plastic lenses, and lighter too, we recommend all customers wear lenses that provide eye protection. This is especially important in certain occupations, for children, and for individuals with reduced vision due to eye disorders.
- High-index lenses – This special lens material greatly reduces thickness and weight, which is perfect for higher prescriptions, and is available in 1.60, 1.67, and 1.74 index. Paired with anti-glare treatments, high-index options can make you feel more confident in your new eyewear!
- Anti-glare lenses – Anti-glare lenses, such as those of the Crizal® brand, are treated to absorb reflections from your lenses’ front and back surfaces. This improves functional vision by reducing unwanted glare and allowing only “good light” into your visual system. Combined with a scratch-resistant and optional blue-filter, anti-glare lenses offer the most comfortable and fatigue-free lenses available.
